Charitable/ Community Engagement
Charitable and community engagement activities can serve multiple purposes; in addition to providing support to charities, they can educate children about social issues and volunteerism, and can help bring the school community together. Although CR A-660 requires that fundraisers be tied to the PA/PTA’s goals, it allows for the Chancellor to permit fundraisers for humanitarian causes on a case-by-case basis. (Contact FACE for more information on obtaining approval.) Below are some examples of charitable/community engagement activities run by parents in NYC public schools:
- Coat Drives
- Food Drives
- Sister Schools
- Walk-a-thons
- Read-a-thons
