Activities and events designed to provide resources to individuals and communities in need can also can educate students about social issues and help bring the school community together. Although CR A-660 requires that fundraisers be tied to the PA/PTA’s goals, it allows for the Chancellor to permit fundraisers for humanitarian causes on a case-by-case basis. (Contact FACE for more information on obtaining approval.) Below are some examples of activities run by parents in NYC public schools that benefit the larger community:

  • Coat drives
  • Food drives
  • Walk-a-thons
  • Sister schools
  • Resource-sharing among and across districts
